What you get

Four tabs on one carrier database.
Prospect, size, catch — and monitor.

Market, Carriers, Leads and Watch List all read the same cleaned DOT data — and any carrier in any of them is one click from its full file. A list you build, a market you size, a lead you chase, a carrier you vet and a book you monitor are always the same source of truth.

Prospect & book-roll

Filter 4.4 million carriers down to your next ten quotes.

Carriers is the whole federal motor-carrier register, made filterable. One box takes a USDOT, an MC docket or a company name — a number opens that carrier’s file, a name narrows the grid. Then slice by writing-paper insurer, domicile state, fleet size, cargo, operating radius, hazmat, loss-risk tier, the states a carrier actually runs in, and the renewal (X-date) window. Every row carries a color-coded risk tier and an ISS estimate, so you can work the best accounts first — then save the search as a view and export the list to CSV or Excel.

  • USDOT, MC docket or name in one search
  • Loss-risk tier + ISS estimate per carrier
  • Save any search as a view, with email alerts
  • CSV / Excel export on every filtered list

Size the market

Turn the same filter into a market map.

Every Carriers filter rolls straight up into Market: distributions by domicile state, fleet size, operating radius and cargo mix, the top writing-paper insurers in your slice, and coverage-on-file limit tiers. Answer “how big is this segment, and who writes it today?” on one screen — then hand the same slice back to the grid with one click.

  • Geography heat-map by state
  • Fleet-size & radius distribution
  • Coverage-on-file limit tiers

Catch them shopping

The carriers who need coverage this week.

Leads reads every FMCSA publish for the moments a carrier goes into the market: BI/PD filings all lapsed and nothing back on file (FMCSA revokes authority about 30 days later, so these carriers are shopping today), a cancellation filed with advance notice, a rejected filing, authority reinstated, or a brand-new authority buying for the first time. Filter by 7-to-90-day window, state or fleet size. Underneath sit the lead pulls — ready-to-work CSV lists for renewals, cancellations, an insurer’s book, fleet growth, MCS-150 due and filing mismatches.

  • Lost coverage, cancellations & rejected filings
  • New authority & reinstatements
  • 7–90 day windows, by state or fleet
  • Eight CSV lead pulls, ready for outreach

Vet any USDOT

One DOT number. The whole carrier.

The carrier file assembles eleven tabs from every public DOT source: census identity and operating authority, current insurance plus the full filing history, safety rating and BASIC scores, 24-month and lifetime crashes, roadside inspections, observed operating footprint, equipment and cargo. It ends where your day does — a prefilled ACORD 125 and 129, a copyable submission narrative, and a one-click PDF of the entire file to attach to a submission.

  • Full insurance filing history
  • Safety rating, BASICs & crash record
  • Prefilled ACORD 125 / 129 + submission narrative
  • Save the whole file as a PDF

Monitor your book

Upload your book of business. See what changed.

Watch List turns Market Tracker into a monitoring system for the carriers you actually write. Import your book — paste USDOT numbers or drop a CSV export straight from your AMS — and we baseline each carrier, then watch it every day. When insurance lapses, coverage drops, a cancellation is filed, an insurer switches, authority is revoked, a new crash posts or a policy renews, you see exactly what changed since you started watching, and get a daily email digest. The renewal pipeline lines up every watched X-date in the next 90 days, with a submission packet a click away. Up to 100 carriers per seat.

Carrier insights

The safety, risk & crash record, read for you.

Every file includes the analysis layer: safety rating, the five BASIC measures with inspection counts, out-of-service rates, recurring violations, and crash history broken out to 24-month and lifetime. We roll it into a single, transparent loss-risk tier — Low to Severe, with the factors that drove it spelled out — plus an ISS estimate reconstructed from FMCSA’s published inspection-selection algorithm, so you get an at-a-glance read before you dig into the detail.

  • What’s driving the score, itemized
  • BASIC scores with violations
  • 24-month vs. lifetime crashes
  • Driver & vehicle OOS rates

Operating footprint

Where the trucks actually run.

A carrier tells you its radius of operation. Its roadside inspections tell you the truth. Footprint maps every state a carrier’s trucks were actually inspected in, classifies the reach — single-state, regional, multi-region or national — and flags carriers whose observed operation doesn’t match what they declared. You can filter the whole database by it: everyone who runs in your state, or every filing mismatch in a book.

  • States touched, from real inspections
  • Reach: single-state → national
  • “Operates in” filter across the index
  • Declared-vs-observed mismatch flag

Why teams use it

Less scraping SAFER.
More analyzing the market.

Renewal timing

Sort and filter by estimated X-date so you reach a carrier while the policy is actually in play — not three months after it bound.

Carriers shopping today

A daily feed of lapsed coverage, filed cancellations, rejected filings and brand-new authorities — the carriers who have to buy right now.

Competitive intelligence

See which insurer writes each carrier today, and what share any insurer holds across a state, cargo class or fleet band.

Clean, joined data

Census, licensing & insurance, and safety records resolved to one carrier record — deduped, normalized and ready to analyze.

Targeted lists

Build a list of, say, Texas reefer fleets of 10–49 power units renewing in Q3, and export it straight to your CRM.

Carrier due diligence

Pull a full safety, crash and insurance-history report before you quote — or before you bind — and attach it to the submission as a PDF.

Risk-first triage

Sort any filtered list by loss-risk tier and ISS estimate, so you spend the day on accounts worth writing — and see the enforcement-prone ones coming.

Where they actually run

Compare the states a carrier declares against the states its trucks are inspected in — and filter for the mismatches.

Monitor your book

Import your book of business and get a daily digest the moment a client loses coverage, switches insurers, has authority revoked or posts a crash.

Built on the public record

The DOT data sources, cleaned and joined.

We pull the federal motor-carrier record from every source that matters, resolve it to one carrier identity, and keep it current — so the data is analyzable the moment you open it.

FAQ

DOT data questions, answered.

What teams ask before they switch on the data. Anything else, just reach out.

Where does the DOT data come from?

Public federal sources — FMCSA census (MCS-150), Licensing & Insurance filings (the legacy L&I archive plus its live MOTUS successors), SAFER and the BASIC safety measures, the MCMIS crash file, roadside inspections and violations, and NHTSA vehicle data. We clean, join and keep it current so it is actually analyzable.

How many carriers are in it?

Every registered USDOT — about 4.4 million. Roughly 2.2 million are active, and around 341,000 of those carry an active BI/PD filing today. The default view is exactly that working set (active DOTs with coverage on file); clear the filters and the rest of the register is there when you need it — which is what makes lapsed coverage and brand-new authorities visible.

How current is it?

The carrier index is refreshed on a rolling ingest from the federal sources, and the change feed that powers Leads and Watch List is rebuilt on every publish. Individual carrier files pull the latest census, authority, insurance and safety records at the moment you open them.

What is a “writing paper” insurer and an “X-date”?

Writing paper is the insurer named on a carrier’s active BI/PD filing — i.e. who carries them today. The X-date is the estimated renewal date (policy effective + 12 months) so you can time outreach to the renewal window.

Can I export the data?

Yes. Any filtered Carriers list exports to CSV (up to 250,000 rows) or Excel (up to 50,000), the lead pulls download as ready-to-work CSVs, and any individual carrier file saves as a PDF you can attach to a submission.

How do the loss-risk score and ISS estimate work?

Every carrier gets a transparent, composite loss-risk tier — Low to Severe — derived from its FMCSA safety rating, out-of-service rates, BASIC measures and 24-month crash history, with the factors behind the score spelled out rather than hidden in a black box. The ISS estimate is our reconstruction of FMCSA’s Inspection Selection System value from the published algorithm (Inspect / Optional / Pass); the official ISS is enforcement-only, so we label ours an estimate. Carriers without enough data are marked Unrated instead of given a falsely reassuring score.

How do I find carriers that are shopping right now?

That’s the Leads tab. It surfaces carriers whose BI/PD filings have all lapsed with nothing back on file, cancellations filed with advance notice, rejected filings, reinstated authority, and first-time buyers with brand-new authority — in a 7-to-90-day window, filterable by state and fleet size. Alongside it sit eight parameterized lead pulls (renewals, cancellations, an insurer’s book, fleet growth, MCS-150 due, filing mismatch) that download as CSV.

Can I upload my book of business and get alerts?

Yes — that’s the Watch List. Import your book by pasting USDOT numbers or dropping a CSV export from your AMS, and we baseline each carrier, then check daily for change. You see exactly what’s changed since you started watching — insurance lapsed or reduced, a cancellation filed, insurer switched, authority revoked, a new crash, a renewal — and get a daily email digest. Each seat can watch up to 100 carriers.

Isn’t this the same free data on the FMCSA site?

It’s built on the same public DOT data — but joined across census, insurance and safety, deduped, normalized, and wrapped in filtering, market roll-ups, change detection and exports. The analysis is the product; the scraping and stitching is done for you.

Who is Market Tracker for?

Commercial trucking insurance teams — MGAs, wholesalers, program carriers and agents — who prospect motor carriers, size segments, track writing-paper share, and vet a USDOT before they quote.
