Insurers

Insurers is the writing-paper league table: every insurer that files BI/PD coverage for motor carriers, ranked by how many carriers are on its paper today, with the carriers it won and lost over the switching window. Where Carriers answers who is out there and Trends sizes a segment, Insurers answers who writes the market, and which papers are growing or bleeding.

#The league table

Click a column heading to sort by it. The rank number stays fixed to book size, so a paper's place in the market is still visible when you sort by wins. The search box narrows the list by insurer or group name. Papers with fewer than 25 carriers are not listed; reach one from the writing-paper column on Carriers.

#The switching window

Switching is counted over the last twelve months, or since the change journal opened if that is more recent. The page says which (since Jun 29, 2026, for example) and the window grows to twelve months on its own.

A switch is a carrier whose current BI/PD filing moved from one paper to another. That includes the moves the public filing feed reported in two halves: a cancellation with nothing to replace it, then a re-entry on different paper once the live federal record was checked. Both halves are read as the one move they were, dated when the carrier re-entered. Data freshness explains the gap in the public feed.

#An insurer's profile

Open any insurer for its profile.

• Headline cards: carriers on paper, won and lost over the window, and net switching. The net card's footnote is what the book did over the trend period.
• Renewal windows on the book: how many of this paper's carriers have an estimated X-date inside the next 30, 60 and 90 days. Each opens the Carriers grid filtered to the paper and the window, ready to work or export.
• Insured carriers over time: one point per FMCSA publish. A hollow marker with a dashed line is a coverage step: the day a batch of carriers was re-verified as insured against FMCSA's live record and rejoined the index. The caption under the chart says how many, market-wide and on this paper, and the net card leaves that jump out of the book's change.
• Wins and losses: where the carriers that switched to this paper came from, and where the ones that left went, by counterparty. Each counterparty opens its own profile.
• Book composition: states, fleet-size mix, haul range, risk mix, coverage on file and cargo mix across the paper's book.
• Recent moves: the latest carriers to switch to or from this paper, with the counterparty and the date. Each opens the Carrier File.
